This clip is very interesting to me as my theme is organic forms. The cabin and outside of it are very linked to nature and it's patterns. If I went to the countryside I could create a similar video.

I think that the lines on the waves don't detract from the illusion as my eye is instantly drawn to the lines and waves and so makes the mountain seem so much smaller. The waves feel as though they will crash on top of me which makes me think of the use of holy water to cleanse all sins and ensure rebirth. It feels as though this image is linked to the rebirth of humanity.

This photograph of Francis Bacon is almost abstract in that it shows Brandt's high sense of pattern. The horizon is directly in line with Bacon's sight which seems purposefully done.

NAZCA

   






These were created between 400 and 650 AD which is interesting as there were no helicopters or aeroplanes in pre columbus times. This image communicates an animal through lines.

A theory of the purpose of Nazca ines is that the Nazca people created them to be seen by their gods in the sky.

The Nazca lines are relevant to my exploratory stage as I used the same technique for my lino print by taking away some of the surface of the lino to create the below piece of work. Even though I could not us teh same technique as the creators of the Nazca lines there is a connection to my work as the end product is similar. For example I took some branches into the dark room and created a photogram, I then traced the outline of the design and printed onto a piece of plain lino. I then cut into my design much like the Nazca culture did to create my lino print.

SERPENT MOUND

The serpent mound is a 1,348 foot long, three foot high prehistoric effigy mound located along Ohio bush in Ohio. It qualifies as a line although the line is a wavy one. It is very similar to the Nazca lines as the lines are similarly shaped. It also links to my photography as I took some leaves, branches and plants into the darkroom to produce photograms. I like the way the shadows of the branches in this photograph have been used to describe the structure of the form.

I found a couple of pieces of work that I find very interesting:

I found this on a website called tumblr. I really love watercolors and the fact that the colors aren't too dilated makes the art work almost look like a stained glass, it's beautiful. the lined are very erratic and uncontrolled.

This is by Russ Mills.

The above lines separated reflect the idea that the bumps on your head are related to your characters. German Physician Franz Joseph Gall had a theory that large bumps could mean that people where going to deceive or lie. I dont think this is accurate but it's interesting to see how they depicted the mind in the past. This wasn't strongly related to my project but has given my ideas to keep in with the organic theme and create parts of the human body in my 3D models.
